KETTLE INSPECTION – NON-INVASIVE TESTING

KETTLE INSPECTION – NON-INVASIVE TESTING

The Kettle Inspection Device (KID) is a special immersed scanning system that uses ultrasound to measure the kettle wall thickness. The KID system has been produced in collaboration with extensive R & D through the National Research Council of Canada and over 100 kettles have been tested in Europe and North America.

The ultrasound probe is mounted on a special framework that sits on top of the kettle (with or without enclosures), whilst the furnace is working.

The probe is inserted into the molten zinc and can scan all parts of the kettle.

The results are interpreted on a PC and later presented to the client. The ultrasonic inspection report is provided by a specialised ultrasound technician. The measurements taken are accurate to +/- 1.5mm.  However, so far all comparative data that we have taken indicates this figure to be nearer +/-0.7mm.  If you would like to examine this data in more depth, please click here

KETTLE PROFILE

Upon completion our engineers will provide a preliminary report, usually on the first working day after the inspection.  This is a numerical representation of the state of the kettle walls allowing our customers to make an initial assessment of its condition.

Within three working days of the inspection, our engineers will provide a full report on the inspected kettle.  This gives an in-depth review of each wall surface, along with a graphical representation for easy reference.

This cutting edge technology provides security and peace of mind and can be undertaken (for most installations) within a single day; therefore the inspection can be planned when there is a break in production, on the weekend or during a national holiday.

This service has been used by some of the biggest names in European galvanizing, as well as a wide selection of independent galvanizers. If you would like to see a list of companies that have benefited from the an inspection please click here

If you would like to know more about the KID system please click here for a more in depth look. Below we also have a video showing the KID in use on an inspection to give you a clearer idea of what the system looks like.
